Skincare Products in India are regulated under the act of Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Rules 1945 and Labelling Declarations by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
We use skin beauty products to look attractive and beautiful. But most of the time we are not aware of the manufacturing process of product, ingredients of the products. We don't even know that the product is good for our health or not.
A study report says that a normal human being either male or female use average 12 beauty product in their daily life which contains almost 170 chemicals in it.
Here, we will discuss some major used chemical in skin care products and their harmful effects.
1. Paraben
It is very common chemicals which is used for making body wash, moisturizers, deodorants and many more. The person who used the products which contains parameters in it can cause very harmful effects in our body. It reduces the sperm counts in the men and also cause endocrine disruption. For the females, it found in eyelashes, hair straighteners, shampoo etc.
2. Ethanol amine
This chemical we will never get to read in the labels of the skin care products because it has been containing various impurities such as "nitrosamines". It affects our respiratory system. It found in hair conditioners, shampoos, soaps sunscreens and mascara.
3. Triclosan
This is antibacterial, and it found in soaps and body wash products. It causes our skin itchy, redness and irritation.
4. Steroids
Steroids causes skin damaging, increase acne problem, color alternation, apart from hydroquinone which caused cancer. Steroids are commonly used for making fairness cream, hand sanitizers.
5. Alcohol
It's a common solvent in skin care products. As we know the alcohol is bad for our health. It causes our skin dry and unmoistourized.
6. Hydroquinone
It is used for the glow up skin tone. It is used to treat acne, scars, wrinkles, age spots which are related to pigmentation, hyperpigmentation and post inflammatory. It's also known as "Carcinogen".
7. Talc
It causes cancer around the lungs when we inhaled. It has mesothelioma that is deadly cancer caused by asbestos exposure. Sometimes it may cause lung cancer, uterine cancer, cervical diseases. It is mainly used in the powder.
8. Wax Free
It is used to bind the product together and create a thicker consistency. Waxes and block pores, create several irritations to skin and are highly dangerous in nature.
9. Artificial/ Synthetic Emulsifier
It is highly silicone based emulsifiers are present in huge variety and majority of over the counter personal and skin care products.
10. Alpha-Isomethyl Lonone
Alpha-isomethyl Ionone can create allergies, itching, skin sensitivity and is toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects. It is also known as isomethylionone, gammanolene or irisantheme. It is used in to provide smells in the beauty products.
Conclusion - The study report of the University of New York states that, over the 78% people uses skin care or the beauty products in their daily life.
About 34% of them use the products just by their advertisements which is shows by their favorite celebrities without knowing any information about that particular product.
23% people uses the products without knowing the use of that particular product and even don't know about their manufacturing and what kinds of ingredients are used for making that.
Only 9% people are know very much about the products, process, labeling, ingredients etc. Of their particular product they are used. It’s estimated that the average woman puts on 168 chemicals on their body every day!
Think about it… you wake up and brush your teeth, shower with gel or soap, might wash your hair, moisturize your body, put on deodorant, put cream on your face, might apply sun screen, then foundation, blusher, eye makeup, perhaps hair spray, perfume…

Above study wants to says that what kind of products or goods we are using in our daily life, we have to know enough of that things. We know that it is very tough to research for all the things but at least we should take care of our body from any regular skin care products.
